5 ON 5 FLAG FOOTBALL PLAYS

Traditional flag football leagues participate in 5 on 5 play. On offense, this typically consists of:

  • One quarterback: This player is given the ball at the start of the play and aims to throw the ball to an open receiver or the center. Because there are no linemen, you’ll find most 5 on 5 teams use football pass plays.

  • One center: This player hands the ball to the quarterback at the start of the play. They can then either guard the quarterback to allow more time for the quarterback to throw the ball, or release and run a route, similar to a receiver.

  • Three receivers: These players run designated routes to open themselves up for a pass from the quarterback.

For each offensive play, the individual players line up on the line of scrimmage. Each player then performs a running route. The combination of each of these routes make up a play. Mixing and matching the nine different route types and field positions allows for hundreds of unique plays. However, it is highly recommended that your team prepare a shortlist of preferred flag football plays ahead of the game. This will allow for quicker decisions in between downs and less confusion on the field.

Need a little bit of help crafting football excellence? Check out the complete 5 on 5 NFL FLAG Playbook.

  • I highly encourage coaches to download the NFL Flag Playbook, print out some plays, and put them in a binder for game day.

  • I, also, highly recommend downloading the free MOJO app on your phone to create the ultimate youth flag football training resource, where coaches can receive fun and effective practice plans all season long.

PA State Background Checks

PA Act 153 of 2014, which was amended on July 1, 2015 by PA Act 15 of 2015, requires very specific background checks for volunteers of youth serving organizations.

All volunteers are required to complete the following and provide copies to WCF prior to each season:

1) Report of criminal history from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) at no cost (Volunteer Only) https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp

2) Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services no cost (Create Individual Account) https://www.compass.state.pa.us/CWIS

3) Fingerprint based FBI criminal history clearance submitted through the Department of Human Services cost-$25.75 for volunteers that      have not been PA residents for the past 10 years www.pa.cogentid.com/index_dpw.htm

   - OR -

A signed affidavit of residency (Download Here) if you have been a PA resident for 10 or more years.

These clearances are standard throughout PA and required for organizations like school volunteers, Scouting, and other youth groups. The clearances are transferable so only copies need to be provided if you've gotten them for any other organization. The reports only display that the volunteer is allowed to work with youth. These clearances need to be renewed and submitted every three years.
